Walter Cliff Kerans, prominent among the older members of the force, was born at Clarksville, Ohio, March 24, 1860. He attended school in that village, and, after growing to manhood, came to Dayton to reside. Being engaged as night watchman for a prominent concern for a number of years encouraged a desire to become a patrolman and he succeeded in getting an appointment to the force on October 22, 1890. He wears badge No. 4, which indicates that he ranks fourth in point of served among the officers. He and his wife, Mary, are the parents of two children, Walter and Nell. Mr. Kerans belongs to the Order of Foresters.
