Edward Kline was born at the little village of Medway, Montgomery County, Ohio, on February 25, 1881. He spent his early days in the little town, attending school and doing odd chores between times. When he grew to manhood he saw greater money-making opportunities in Dayton, and subsequently took up his residence there. Ringing up fares on a street car proved the most fascinating of the various forms of employment which he experienced, and he was so engaged when appointed to the police force on April 5, 1907. He has a wife, Bessie, and one son, George.
