Michael James Tierney was born in the village of Osborn, Ohio, on August 3, 1873. He attended the public schools of that village and grew up there. As a boy he was fascinated by trains, and when he had reached an age that permitted he secured employment as a brakeman. From the time he reached his maturity until he was appointed patrolman on the Dayton Police Force, March 2, 1903, he followed this occupation. He removed to Dayton in young manhood and was happily married. Mr. Tierney's family consists of his wife, Catherine M., three sons, John, Thomas and Charles, and one daughter, Catherine.
