Charles L. Bassett, the subject of this sketch, is a native of the Gem City, having been born in Dayton, Ohio, on May 16, 1858. He received the advantage of the public schools and grew to manhood in his native city. After leaving school he followed various forms of employment until he finally drifted into the liquor business. He followed this line for a number of years when, desiring a change he successfully sought an appointment to the police force. He was appointed patrolman in 1901, and is proving a capable officer. Mr. Bassett has a wife Emma, and two children, Don and Helen.
