David R. Boes, who is probably one of the widest known members of the police department, was born in the little settlement of Bethany, Butler County, Ohio, on December 29, 1860. After completing his education in the village school he began work as a carpenter's apprentice and in time became an expert contractor. He was thus engaged when appointed patrolman, January 27, 1899. Mr. Boes is a brother of former county sheriff, John Boes. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. and Modern Woodmen. His family consists of his wife, Anna Bell, and four children, Capitola, Lulu, Chester and Walter.
