Thomas J. Cavanaugh, who is of Irish descent, was born in Dayton, Ohio, on September 28, 1881. After securing his education in the common schools he set out to make his own living, and thus secured his early training in a practical and hardworking way. After "trying his hand" at various forms of factory work he resolved to learn a trade, and selected that of plasterer. He was following this occupation when appointed patrolman on the police force, March 20, 1905. During his service in the department Mr. Cavanaugh has made many "good catches," but he has not yet caught a wife. He is a member of the Order of Foresters.
