Daniel W. Coughnour was born August 26, 1852, at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. While still a young man he left the public schools and came to Dayton with his parents. He followed various forms of employment until he was appointed to the police force as patrol wagon officer, on April 26, 1887. His faithful service on this job was rewarded in 1909 by an appointment as turnkey at Second Precinct station. "Dan" is known to every member of the force and liked by all. He is an Odd Fellow and a Modern Woodsmen. Mr. Coughmour's family consists of his wife, Minnie, and six children, Luesa, William, John, Margaret, Ethel and Daniel, Jr.
