John L. Dempsy, who has been a regular patrolman on the police force since August 18, 1907, was born in the city of Dayton, Ohio, on June 24, 1873. He received the advantage of an education in the city schools and began to work for his own living at an early age. He filled a number of positions, and finally secured a place with a laundry concern, where he was engaged when appointed to the force. Mr. Dempsy is identified with the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He has a wife, Lydia, and one son, Thomas James.
