Newton H. Haywood was born in Miamisville, Clermont County, Ohio, on All Fool's Day of the year 1862. He attended the public schools of his native village and prepared himself for a teacher. During this period his ability as a progressive citizen was recognized and he was elected township clerk on the Republican ticket. Soon after this he removed to Dayton where he was proprietor of a hotel until appointed to the force, on August 4, 1902. His family consists of his wife, Lauretta, and four children, Leroy, Nevada, Ralph and Eugene. Mr. Haywood belongs to the M. E. Church and is a member of the Modern Woodmen.
