William Edward King was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1873, at the village of Greenfield, Highland County, Ohio. While he was still in the public schools there, the wonders of the telegraph office appealed to him, and within a few years after he had completed his education he became an expert operator. He followed this fascinating employment after coming to Dayton, and was engaged as a night ticket agent and telegraph operator when appointed to the police force, on January 4, 1907. He and his wife, Tillie, have a daughter whose name is Olive. Mr. King is a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.
