Charles L. Kurfiss was born on a farm in Warren County, Ohio, October 3, 1865. He grew to manhood on the farm and received his training in the public schools. While still a young man he moved to Dayton, where, after holding a number of positions, he was employed as an attendant at the Dayton State Hospital. He was appointed to the police force October 6, 1892, and is one of the oldest members, wearing badge No. 7. He is married and has one daughter, Madeleine. Besides being an active worker in the Policeman's Benevolent Association he belongs to the I. O. O. F. and Modern Woodmen orders.
