Thomas McMahon, born of Irish-American parentage, at Bangor, Somerset county, Maine, on November 22, 1855, is one of the turnkeys at Central police station. After receiving his education in the New England schools he set out to make his own way in the world, with the result that he finally settled in Dayton. He was engaged as a railroad conductor when appointed patrolman on the police force, August 18, 1899. Early in 1909 a position as turnkey at Central station was open and "Tom" was immediately selected as the man for the place. He has a wife, Ellen, and daughter, Nerva.
