Bernard H. Meyer was born in the historic village of Chickasaw, Mercer County, Ohio, on March 21, 1883. He attended the common school in that village and later, when his parents removed to Dayton, completed his education at St. Mary's Institute. When a mere lad Meyer gained fame in his native village for his knowledge of the art of cooking, and he became so efficient along this line that he followed the occupation of chef when he grew to manhood. He was employed at this work when appointed to the police force, December 8, 1904. Mr. Meyer is a member of the Knights of St. John and the C. K. of O.
