Joseph W. Nurrenbrock, one of the oldest members of the police department, was born in the city of Dayton, Ohio, on February 18, 1865. He received his education in St. Mary's Parochial School and began work with a contracting firm soon after leaving school. His thrift and industry were rewarded with success, and in a few years he became a contractor on his own behalf. Mr. Nurrenbrock was following this occupation when appointed patrolman on September 6, 1895. He is a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and the P. B. of A. He has a wife, Callie, and seven children, Anna, Clarence, Emma, Elmer, Helen, Leo and Mary.
