George A. Rees was born at 565 West Fourth Street, Dayton, Ohio, on June 18, 1876. He received his education in the public schools and learned the trade of blacksmith after reaching manhood. He followed this trade until April 1, 1901, when he was appointed to the city fire department. He served the city in this capacity until March 11, 1907. He followed his trade again for a little over two years, when he once more felt a desire to work for the city. This time he sought a position on the city police force, and was appointed patrolman December 5, 1909. Mr. Rees has a wife, Katharine, and one daughter, Edith Frances.
