John J. Stapleton, who has been doing a "beat" on the Dayton police force since March 10, 1905, is a native of Brown County, Ohio, having been born in the village of Fayettesville on June 12, 1877. He attended the schools of that village and later moved to Dayton, where he secured employment as a railroader. This work he followed for several years until he had accumulated enough money to enter business for himself. A desire for outdoor work led him to seek a position on the police force. Mr. Stapleton's family consists of a wife, Alice A., and a daughter, Edna May.
