Mrs. Ida Van Skaik, one of the matrons at the central police station, was born in Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio, July 1, 1861. She received her education in the public schools of her native city and grew up to womanhood there. While a young woman she was married and came to Dayton with her husband. Being left a widow a number of years later, with three daughters to care for, she was forced to seek employment. She was appointed to her present position June 18, 1906. The names of her daughters are Jane, Bessie and Helen.
