William B. Varley, of Irish descent, is a native of Dayton, having been born in that city October 16, 1859. He was educated in a parochial school, and, after following several occupations, engaged in railroading, which he followed until appointed to the police force. He received his appointment March 12, 1901. Having been born and raised in Dayton, he is widely known and well liked, both by his fellow members of the force and the public. Two sons, Martin and William, have blessed the union of him and his wife, Mary.
