John W. Wagner, one of the turnkeys at the Third Precinct police station, was born in the city of Dayton, on December 31, 1855. He received his education in the public schools and went to work in a factory at an early age. In time he learned the trade of assembler and stayed with this occupation until he was appointed patrolman on the police force, January 15, 1897. He faithfully performed his duties in this capacity and was rewarded with a promotion to turnkey on January 11, 1909. Mr. Wagner is the head of an interesting family consisting of his wife, Laura, and five children, William, Chester, Robert, John and Margaret.
